Charmaine Hammond Talks About Fear – By Kamryn Greene, Holy Trinity High School student
Charmaine Hammond is the true definition of a role model and having the opportunity to listen to her speak was flattering. She began the night telling us a story about the time her husband’s sailboat tipped over in the middle of Lac La Biche, and the journey it took to survive. Although it was a simple story, the lessons portrayed were that of an excellent novel. One of the biggest takeaways was her explanation of how fear can control our lives. Although she explained it on a small scale, it applies to all situations. Simply put, fear creates anger, and then internal chatter creates fear. So when we talk negatively about ourselves and doubt our abilities, we are creating anger. But we claim to want peace and happiness. Well if we are so programmed to create anger out of self-doubt, how are we to be happy? This is a hard question to answer, because, for most of us, including Charmaine, we are not okay with being vulnerable. But why exactly are we uncomfortable with opening up? It always leads back to fear. In order to be truly happy we need to trust ourselves. We need to take risks, just ask, and be authentic, which is one of most important lessons we can learn.
On November 12, the Enbridge Famous 5 Speaker Series will welcome Charmaine Hammond to the stage. Her presentation will focus on how a sailboat accident, an incorrigible dog, and learning to ASK set the path for her future, and dramatically changed the direction of her business. She will share how a day on the lake that almost took her life actually gave her life, and how many years later a dog that she and her husband rescued, actually rescued her… (teaching her about purpose, passion, patience, and not being a perfectionist) and inspired her Million Acts of Kindness tours. Come hear how learning to do the ASK can inspire new levels of influence and success and how this became the missing puzzle piece to everything that had been set in motion.
Charmaine will speak about her greatest learnings, and challenges in business, the decisions she made to overcome these and how she focused on projects that support women and girls. Learn how being mentored by leaders provided her with confidence to move her plans forward. The night will be an engaging, definitely interesting, thought-provoking and inspiring presentation and conversation.
